Illegal Sharing
Apparently Tumblr believes that you can only post images from sites that you’ve directly gotten permission to share from. Since most of my Tumblr comes from within Tumblr sites itself and they apparently don’t meet this criteria, I’m done sharing through Tumblr.
I have tried to be a conscientious citizen on the internet. Whenever someone highlighted a picture of theirs they wanted to have taken down, I took them down no questions asked. I never shared from sites that had explicit Copyright prohibitions from doing so. I also wouldn’t share images if the click through went to a location that had explicit copyright notices. I even took down images that someone explicitly sent to me to post when they sent me a followup message asking me to take it down!
Unfortunately Mr. Nicholas Finke is a chickenshit that can’t reach out with a direct request and instead sent a formal DMCA takedown notice through Tumblr. I would have gladly responded by taking it down without even asking for verification of his rightful ownership to that, which is dubious to me since the URL contained a reference to “guys-with-iphones.” Mr. Finke can go fuck himself.
Tumblr has made it clear that the only way not to violate TOS is to do a forensic analysis of each and every image I find on Tumblr, find the original owner and get their explicity copyright permission. That’d be great if I didn’t have a job, or if the entire premise of the site is sharing of media. SInce they apparently put the onus on me for sharing stuff from within their system, this is the last post. I’m not going to end up one of the thousands that will randomly be erased from Tumblr because of fucktards like Mr. Finke.
